Many women turn to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) during the menopause, but more and more are looking for alternative therapies to ease their symptoms. Meg Matthews is one such woman, and she’s claimed that taking CBD oil has changed her life.
The 53-year-old activist and entrepreneur – who was formerly married to Noel Gallagher – credits cannabis oil for giving her her ‘mojo’ back, so much so that she’s started producing her own.
Matthews was introduced to the product by a friend from New York, taking it once she’d had guidance from her doctor (and confirmed that CBD had no high-inducing THC in it).
“Feeling anxious for no reason at all was one of the worst things about my menopause experience. Three months on and I can honestly say that my anxiety levels have dropped to practically nothing,” says the star on her website, MegsMenopause.
Symptoms of menopause include hot flushes, muscle pains, palpitations, and mood changes among others.
She also says that it’s helped reduce joint pain, and contributes to her feeling ‘sprightly’ first thing in the morning.
The success of CBD on her own symptoms led to Matthews buying a company producing the oil; The M Blend. Each product – of which there are different strengths, and options such as infused sweets – is specially designed to target menopause symptoms.
The hemp plants are grown in England and Ireland with seeds that don’t contain THC, therefore making them legal in both countries.
Talking to The Mirror, Matthews says, “I have people who test the crop to see that it is up to a high enough standard and quality…
The process goes from the plant being cold-compressed and then the liquid that comes from it looks like a black tar and then it is taken to my workshop in South London where the CBD oil is either bottled or used in other products.”
