Barely a day seems to go by without the announcement of another CBD product in development – so what’s the latest in the UK?
CBD drinks have been around for a while – including tea, soft drinks, rums, gins and craft beers – but there’s currently a flavourless water-soluble CBD ingredient in development (with undetectable THC levels) that could lead to further expansion in this market. While many people enjoy the slightly earthy taste of CBD extracts, it doesn’t work well in every type of product, so a flavourless version seems a shrewd move and could lead to CBD being added to just about anything!
Meanwhile, a CBD gum launch is just around the corner in the UK too, with each piece set to contain 3mg of CBD. Manufacturers say that gum will be an even quicker way of absorbing the chemical into the body than existing methods, and the strong peppermint or menthol flavour will easily disguised that earthy taste we’ve talked about.
With CBD fitness classes taking off in London, we predict this trend (and that for CBD-infused sportswear) will spread throughout the country in the coming months. And there’s no sign of the CBD skincare and beauty market slowing down over here either.
Over in the US, where it’s currently a $1 billion industry, some Wall Street experts think it could become a $16 billion one, thanks to recent changes in US law. Big brand Whole Foods has hinted it will soon stock CBD products, while professional sports teams are increasingly turning to the compound. In fact USA Triathlon has become the first sports governing body to sign a deal with a CBD company, so we’re expecting to see more growth in this area in 2020 too.
