As the rapid commercialisation of CBD products continue in Canada, the Toronto Wolfpack (a Canadian rugby team competing in England’s second division) are the latest to get in on the act. The team have announced the release a range of pain relief products.. with cannabidiol (CBD) as its active ingredient.
The initial range of products, which include CBD gels and creams will be sold under the brand name “Rugby Strength” and marketed by the team’s commercial arm — HowlBrands, in collaboration with International Cannabis Corporation (ICC).
Being a professional rugby team, Toronto Wolfpack claims to know a thing or two about pain. This is why they intend to market these products primarily to rugby players and other athletes who tend to have pain management needs.
Although it will be starting off its product launch later this year with CBD gels and creams, the “unashamedly commercial” team aren’t short of ambition, as they plan to extend their product range to tinctures and roll-ons in the near future.
At the moment, the brand will mainly target rugby-loving nations like the UK, Canada, Australia and South Africa. However, the products will also be available in countries like Poland and Germany where the sport is less popular.
Established in 2017 with the main purpose of profit generation, the Toronto Wolfpack is the world’s first transatlantic sports team, competing in England all the way from Canada. It hopes to be promoted to Europe’s Super League by 2020.
